Organization Development Director
Full-time position



Background: Food AND Medicine is a grassroots, 
volunteer-led, community organization fighting 
for workers' rights, economic justice and health 
care for all. We work with local labor unions, 
churches, community groups and progressive 
activists, to organize laid-off, low-income, and 
unorganized workers. Through solidarity and 
collective action, we resist the negative impacts 
of corporate globalization and stand up for the 
economic and social rights of working families. 
Our offices are located at the Eastern Maine 
Labor Council's Solidarity Center in Brewer, 
Maine.



Job Description: Development Director



Food AND Medicine (FAM) is seeking to fill the 
position of Development Director to build 
collective action for FAM programs, and to 
coordinate development and fundraising activities 
for the organization. Depending on the person, 
this job will start with more project based work 
and evolve into more oversight work.



Development (35%)



Organizational development:



Assist in "organizing the organization", 
specifically in developing the board, steering 
committee and personal committees
Membership development:
Develop and coordinate membership and staff 
activities to further enhance the organizations' 
member involvement and ownership


Fundraising: (30%)



Research grant opportunities, and prepare grant 
applications with oversight from the board of 
peers
Oversee fundraising events including May Day 
Solidarity event, July 4th Solidarity Celebration 
and other fundraising activities
Develop and support individual donors to FAM
Develop and support the work of the Build our union future project


Program: (30%)



·         Choose programs - from the many FAM 
projects- to work on and organize around



General Office Administration (5%)



Assist in the effective administration of the FAM office
Attend monthly FAM meetings
Make periodic reports to the board of peers


Qualifications



Demonstrated leadership and organizing skills at 
work, on campus, or in the community. Experience 
as a union or community organizer preferred.
Experience in nonprofit fundraising and 
development.  Willingness to work long hours in a 
flexible work environment
Current knowledge of labor issues, and a 
commitment to building a progressive labor 
movement.
Strong writing skills, and the ability to 
represent FAM’s goals, objectives and outcomes 
for programs and projects, both verbally and in 
writing.
Experienced in public speaking. Able to 
comfortably articulate FAM's initiatives to the 
press.
Comfortable working with a variety of office 
software, internet and e-mail environments, 
specifically Microsoft Word, Access, Excel and 
Publisher.


Compensation



Pay at starting at $32,000 depending on 
experience including health insurance stipend, 
paid holidays and vacation. Union contract.
