Subject: An important vote on Wednesday

Hi,

I just wrote my Representative about this upcoming vote, and I
hope you'll do the same. On Wednesday, December 12, the House of
Representatives is expected to vote on legislation that would
make it illegal for the U.S. intelligence community to engage in
abusive interrogation techniques.

In the wake of the Abu Ghraib scandal, Congress passed a law
that explicitly prohibited subjecting any detainee in U.S.
custody or control to cruel, inhumane, or degrading treatment or
punishment. But this July, President Bush signed an executive
order that administration officials say allows the CIA to resume
an interrogation program that has reportedly authorized the use
of cruel techniques - like waterboarding, sleep deprivation, and
stress positions. Wednesday's vote is a chance to take torture
off the table - and to make all U.S. agencies comply with
American rules and moral standards.

It may be a very close vote. Your Representative needs to hear
from you now, so please click below - it only takes a moment.
