WEEKLY CIVIC ENGAGEMENT ACTION: Join us on Tuesday, December 5 at noon to visit offices of Senators Collins and King. Meet inside the Federal Building on Harlow Street in the lobby (go through Security screening and take a left) at 11:45 a.m.

Tax Plan

Though Senator Collins’ vote for the Senate tax bill was a huge disappointment, we need to let her know that we’re not going away, that we won’t be written off, that we’re going to keep tracking issues and asking hard questions. Here are only a few:

*   What will the Senator’s role be in the reconciliation process? Are there circumstances under which she’d vote for a final bill, or has she written Republican leadership a blank check?

*   Is the behind-closed-doors process that brought us passage of this bill the Senate’s new normal? What will the Senator do to ensure a return to regular order?

*   If the ACA individual mandate is abolished, what will she do to help preserve affordable, meaningful insurance coverage for the millions of Americans who need and want it?

*   And finally, when will that promised $4,000 raise show up in my paycheck?

Other issues

Meanwhile the government is scheduled to reach the debt ceiling at the end of the week. What is Senator Collins' plan for continued funding? What will she do to end immigration limbo for young people left stranded by President Trump’s unilateral cancellation of their Deferred Action status? What action will she take to ensure passage of the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP)?

Concurrent Demonstration
