<>MLK Birthday Commemoration 2018: <>
Nonviolent resistance a year after Trump's election
Sunday, January 14th (snow date January 15th)
3:00 - 5:00 (followed by potluck and sing-a-long)
Unitarian Universalist Church
120 Park Street, Bangor
This past year we have seen ever more clearly how racism is used to divide and divert people from understanding and challenging the systemic roots of growing inequality and injustice. Our annual commemoration will look at how our community is addressing racism.
3:00 p.m. Panel: Representatives of local organizations will share how they are addressing racism and how their efforts are related to the following Martin Luther King, Jr. quote: <>
A true revolution of values will soon cause us to question the fairness and justice of many of our past and present policies…True compassion is more than flinging a coin to a beggar. It comes to see that an edifice which produces beggars needs restructuring…A nation that continues year after year to spend more money on military defense than on programs of social uplift is approaching spiritual death. -- Martin Luther King, Jr. Riverside Church Speech April 7, 1967
4:00 pm. Small groups will discuss how we can strengthen our work to challenge racism and continue to collaborate to be a diverse but unified force for peace, justice and sustainability.
5:00 p.m. Potluck supper (vegetarian)
6:00 p.m. Sing-a-long with Marx Brothers and Sister
