Greater Bangor Area NAACP Announces a<br>
Community Forum: "Civil Rights and Law Enforcement-A Community
Dialogue"<br>

</u><x-tab> </x-tab>The Greater Bangor
Area NAACP will hold a community forum entitled "Civil Rights and
Law Enforcement-A Community Dialogue" on Friday, April 25, 2008
from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at Wellman Commons Hall (at the former Bangor
Theological Seminary campus), 300 Union Street, Bangor.<br>

<x-tab> </x-tab>The main purpose of the forum is for citizens of
the greater Bangor area to open up a dialogue between law enforcement
and persons of color about racial equality in law enforcement, toward
the goal of establishing a positive relationship. The forum will
take place in an open-minded, safe environment, in the spirit and
memory of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.<br>

<x-tab> </x-tab>A panel consisting of members of the NAACP,
local police department chiefs, a representative from the Maine
Attorney General's office, members of the local clergy, University of
Maine Professor Douglas Allen and a student representative will open
the floor to citizens' questions and comments under the facilitation
of a moderator.<br>

<x-tab> </x-tab>Greater Bangor NAACP President
Joe Perry, who spearheaded this effort to bring together community
leaders to respond to the common concerns that the organization hears
from the public, is optimistic. "We hope that this will be
the first in a series of constructive community discussions about race
and law enforcement," said Perry. Future community
dialogues concerning racial equality in the economic and educational
arenas are also tentatively planned by the GBA NAACP.</font><br>
