<div>On March 7, 2007, several Maine citizens were arrested for
criminal trespassing at the federal building in Bangor. In
conjunction with "Project Occupation", a nation-wide
initiative, called by Kathy Kelly of Creative Voices for Nonviolence,
the concerned activists were protesting Senator Susan Collins'
continuing support of the war in Iraq and her failure to meet with
constituents.</div>

<div>Involved in the organization and action were Ron King, Nancy
Hill, Carolyn Coe, Bonnie Preston, John Miller, Pat Wheeler,
Judy and Peter Robbins, Jean Olivett, Richard Paget, Diane Fitzgerald,
Maureen Block, Doug Rawlings, Robert Shetterly, Henry Braun, Jimmy
Freeman, Jon Kreps, and Dud Hendrick. </div>

<div>On Tuesday, April 29th at 8:30, the six (Rawlings, Shetterly,
Braun, Freeman, Kreps, and Hendrick) who have been able to pursue the
charges to trial will finally have their day in court (Penobscot
Superior Court--97 Hammond St). Three of the defendants will be
represented by Phil Worden and Lynne Williams, while three will
represent themselves. </div>

<div>A rally scheduled for 10-2pm, in support of the defendants, has
been organized by Laurie Dobson, Independent candidate for U. S.
Senate, who is running for the seat occupied by Collins. Also
expected to speak are Maine environmental activist, Julian Holmes; Tom
Ledue--Democrat candidate for U.S. Senate; and Harold Burbank,
Green party candidate for Congress in Connecticut and former Maine
resident. </div>

<div>The defendants have stated: "Conditions that provoked
this action over a year ago have only worsened. We want all U.S.
military bases closed, the occupation ended, a halt to all funding,
and we want the leaders who deceived the people about the necessity of
this war to be held accountable. We also believe that
reparations should be paid to the Iraqi people." The
defendants are encouraging supporters to attend the trial and are
asking that, in any interactions with the media, they stay "on
message". Signs will not be permitted in the
courtroom and defendants are asking that supporters consider how any
disruptive behavior might impact the jury.</div>

<div>Note: Parking is very limited in the area and the 2-hour
parking limit is closely monitored. There is a small metered
parking lot across Hammond Street and the municipal parking garage
downtown a couple of blocks from the courthouse. </div>
